The next chapter in my MAPP!
It was really great to feel reconnected to the MAPP community following the 'welcome' skype, an opportunity to refresh and re-ignite the passion of exploring further into our professional practices.
As I now begin module two of the MAPP, I wanted to add a few of my thoughts to help those who are starting module one:
I enrolled into the programme quite late and so I didn't fully engage into the expectations of the first module early enough to feel that I fully understood what I needed to do and I panicked! This is were I found the blogs so helpful and they gave me a great insight and a much deeper understanding of the direction that I needed to be going in. Reading the blogs also made me appreciate the wealth of knowledge that we have as a community, the value in us sharing it and also to act as a trigger to reflect on our own practices and experiences.
Give yourself plenty of time to read and write, it took me much longer than I anticipated I also found it helpful to ask someone who does not have a dance/theatre background to read your claims for prior learning to receive feedback on if they are clear, concise, organized and understood.
My aim throughout this experience is to keep my my mind always open to new ideas and the reflections on my experiences along with not to being afraid to push myself out of my comfort zone. I feel that I still need to find my voice more within the MAPP community and to be more involved with discussions. I do believe that this MA programme will improve my ability to feel confident in what I do and in what I want to achieve from my practice in the future. I have already noticed a difference in my approach to my teaching and how I want to share my knowledge with my students by questioning my actions during class and reflecting on the methods that I use and their level of success.
I wish everyone the very best of luck at whatever stage they are in the programme and I will look forward to the group skypes, reading blog posts and the discussions we will have reflecting on our passion for the arts!
A quote to inspire our confidence;
If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.

Hey Susan!
ReplyDeleteRegarding your advice to those in Module One, could I add to that, don't forget to lean on your Supervisors! As it's distance learning, I think we forget that if we were on campus we wouldn't think twice about consulting them. They're here to help and, for me, really made all the difference.
All the best for this term.
