Communication and Learning

I was so encouraged by our last Skype discussion, everyone spoke with a passion for their beliefs and it was really interesting to observe.  Everyone really does communicate in different ways, there's no right or wrong way to express yourself its all part of our individuality.  I think that sometimes we can over think, I am victim to this myself, about the content of what we say and if it all sounds correct but really we should think the exact opposite of this, whatever and however anyone says something it will spark a discussion, a method of communication.

During this second module of the MA, I feel that I have already learnt so much!  I do not come from an academic background so I have felt that everything within this MA so far has been a new learning for me and I am really quite pleased with all this new knowledge and understanding.  I still have far to go but each assignment is a step forward and certainly not backwards!  I feel that I have been stretched in more ways than one to achieve the goals for the module and incorporate my teaching, running the family home and making sure that everyone is ok.  However, as soon as I may have screamed at the computer or ranted my feelings to someone, usually my teenage children, I remember that I am privileged to be in this position and that I am very fortunate to have this opportunity. It gives me encouragement to keep going and that it will all be worth it in the end!

some more thoughts....

Now, as most of us are in lockdown number two, it really has opened my eyes to how things will move forward after this pandemic.  I actually believe that this is as good of time as any to be able to spend time reflecting on everything and approach things with new eyes and ears.  Remembering everything past with great fondness but also excited to be doing things in new and different ways.

Normally, at this time of year I am involved with Nutcracker rehearsals as a Party Parent for the local ballet company but of course this year is very different.  The artistic director decided that the annual Nutcracker production was not going to go by the wayside, she had the fantastic idea of producing it as a movie called Clara's Tri-Cities Nutcracker dream.  I was not able to be involved with the performance side of things as my party husband is not a close relative so I got involved with choreography, liaising with the local business and helping with costumes and it was equally as thrilling to be doing this as it is performing in the theatre.  I just wanted to bring this up as I have been truly inspired by what the artistic director and the production team have created, their determination to not let the children down who wait every year for The Nutcracker with such excitement.  This was not just for the ballet company but for the local businesses' in the community,  a way of coming together and communicating the same thing but in a different way!

  1. Hello Susan,
It's wonderful that the second lockdown has allowed you to explore new areas and try different things. I think 'being adaptable' is a skill that we have all developed though the pandemic and it's wonderful that you have focused on the positive.
I'm quite excited to continue with the MA as it creates an environment of interesting discussion. You mentioned over thinking, which is something I definitely do too, but when we communicate the ideas we can find more clarity.
